Coronation MFS & MM financial skills program. I ran this training in the rural area of Bothas Hill and I was very happy that the majority of the group was the youth and we had few older people who I thought will make the session more interesting and fruitful. The youth were overwhelmed by the knowledge on personal finance/ financial health we shared and they were more interested on the good saving methods that are out there to make then prosperous sooner in their life journey. The interaction was amazing as the older participants shared their sad earliest memories with money which mostly occurred because of lack of Financial literacy. The highlight of the day was when I did a practical example of a long term goal set for a child's tertiary education where the plan started from when the child was in Grade 8, the calculation of the estimate of how much should be saved just to cater for the registration fees at varsity/ collage. They were all shocked by the little amount that their parents should have saved monthy to get them to tertiary and some were emotional as their parents told them that they cannot afford to take them to varsity back then when you only needed the registration fees. This really showed how financial education is important in one's life, a life skill indeed! At the end of the session I was excited that the session had a positive impact on all age groups especially because such opportunities are rare in the rural areas, some of them even sent me messages to express their gratitude!
